Brianna Lyston
The athletics world has been stunned by the record-setting success of a 12-year-old Jamaican sprinter that has swept all before her in a recent national athletic meet in the nation's 2017 Boys and Girls Championship. Early comparisons are naturally being made with Usain Bolt, and some commentators are calling her the heir to his sprinting throne. Brianna Lyston won the 100m and 200m double, and is the first girl in her competitive age group to break the 24-second barrier at the championships.

This was not her first time breaking the record. In the semi-final, she made 23.46 seconds, but her time was deemed illegal due to the wind-assistance. The finals gave her the opportunity to prove her true abilities once more, and she didn't fail to do so. She backed up her semi-final's score with a legal 23.72 time in the final.

The Next Usain Bolt

.Athletics is a premier sport at the junior level in Jamaica and Lyston's running skills and athletic ambition are the dream products of the sprinting infrastructure evident within the country. With Usain Bolt's retirement impending in the not too distant future, the country is in search of the next track superstar to take his place. For someone of such a young age, Lyston will have to handle added scrutiny every time she takes to the track now, however she is certainly taking the right strides in the right direction for someone of such a young age.

Here Are a Few More Details That Can Help You Understand Just How Amazing This Young Runner Is:

1. Her nearest rival finished almost a full second behind her - 0.88 seconds to be precise.

2. As a 12-year-old, she is only 2.38 seconds behind Flo Jo's world record time of 21.34, which she set at the 1988 Olympics.

3. Lyston became the first-ever under-13 athlete to run a sub-24-second time at the Champs.

4. At a comparable age, Usain Bolt was not performing at the same levels as Lyston, he was slower to mature and occupied with other sports, such as cricket and football, as well as competing in athletics. It wasn't until the age of 14 that bolt committed to the sport of running.

Jamaicans won't be the only ones following the development of Lyston's athletic career, a new phenomenal sprinter has hit the tracks and it is inspiring to see her run. Good luck Brianna Lyston.
